My first journal entry here. Thrills 'n' chills, I know.
In any case, I thought I'd write a few words about things relevant to this gallery.
Images:
I've been bombarding everyone with photos lately. I don't think of myself as a photographer, but as someone with a camera who gets some lucky shots. However, I do enjoy taking pictures and hope everyone has enjoyed my little forays into the world of photography. I've rediscovered Susan Jennings and that has really inspired me on to try and take better photos.
On Masks:
I've several masks in the works, all laying around in various stages of completion. I'm working on new techniques, new materials and I fear I'm at a trial and error (and error and error) period in my art. While that can be frustrating, It's also exciting for I really love pushing the boundries of my art to new territory. Right now I'm in the Badlands and planning on crossing the border to BirdCity. Some people get postcards, I bring back trophy heads of goblins and ghouls.
Painting:
Working on several new paintings. Thinking about future paintings as well. From time to time I do portraits of my favorite musicians (oh now fan-ish) and am thinking about who I'll do next. Maybe Nick Drake, whom I've never painted before. Also thinking of posting a few of those portraits here.
Yea or nay?
Inspiration:
My art and mood and mental/emotional state is, as always, greatly influenced by whatever music I've been listening to. And if you are a Nick Drake fan (and really, you should be), you must run out and purchase "Spoon and Rafter" by Mojave 3. It's utterly, heartbreakingly brilliant. If Neil Halstead is not a Nick fan, I'll.. I'll eat a goblin. That and "Nude" by Vast are in heavy rotation for me lately. Along with old Kate Bush songs. I am sending everyone who reads this a hypnotic suggestion to buy "Spoon and Rafter." Tell me if it works.
Life in general:
Is strange, as always. And stressful at the moment due to the fact that my cat Grim (who can be seen in my bio thing) will be having surgery next week to remove a mysterious lump on his hip. May is never a good month for me. Let if be over soon.
To close -- Thanks to all who read this and respond and to everyone who comments on my work.
